Amsterdam UMC Research BV is seeking an enthusiastic Programme Manager for the Healthy Future strategic theme. You will collaborate with programme leads, the Programme Council, and multiple faculties to translate research into societal impact.
The role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, including developing the structural entity, building partnerships, and coordinating calls for proposals. Hybrid working with 20–24 hours per week is offered.
Are you looking for a position where you can connect academic expertise with strategic programme management on the theme Healthy Future?
Creating a healthy future requires more than disciplinary expertise alone. Healthy Future is one of the University of Amsterdam’s (UvA) four Strategic Themes. Healthy Future brings together knowledge, people, and perspectives across all seven faculties of the UvA to address some of the most pressing health challenges of our time. It takes a broad view of health, including physical and mental wellbeing, equal opportunities, prevention, and planetary health. Healthy Future contributes to the UvA Strategy 2021-2026 by strengthening the connection between research, education, and society. See: About Healthy Future - Healthy Future. The other strategic themes are Responsible Digital Transformations, Systemic and Just Climate Solutions, and Fair and Resilient Societies.
Healthy Future is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Programme Manager to further develop the strategic theme into a recognized UvA collaborative. This position is a unique opportunity to experience the university from the inside out: to learn how the university works around a strategic theme, while at the same time being exposed to new research across all disciplines and staying closely connected to teaching and academic developments.
As Programme Manager, you will play a central role in the strategic and operational development of Healthy Future. You will work closely with the programme leads of Healthy Future, the Programme Council, and and connect different faculties, research institutes, and external partners.
You will combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution: identifying opportunities, bringing the right people together, and turning ideas into concrete collaborations and results.
We offer a varied and independent position in which you will make an important contribution to the further development of Healthy Future. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of conversion to a permanent appointment following a positive evaluation. The position is for 20-24 hours per week.
You will be mainly working with the academic programme leads, dr Wilma Waterlander and prof dr Julia van Weert; and the programme council. Also, you will be closely working with the programme managers of the other themes. You will be based at the AmsterdamUMC -location VUmc; in particular at the Medical Faculty of the UvA, department of Public & Occupational Health. In addition, you will work between AmsterdamUMC and UvA Roeterseiland campus with occasional work at other UvA locations. As the programme develops, your role may also involve collaboration with other faculties and research groups.
During the publication period, applications will be handled continuously. If the vacancy is filled, it will be closed prematurely.
Internal candidates will be given priority over external candidates in case of equal suitability.
Acquisition in response to this vacancy will not be considered.
Interviews will take place in October 2026; and we hope to appoint a candidate as soon as possible after November 1st 2026.
