Aluvia Photonics is seeking a Process Engineer to develop and optimize fabrication processes for aluminium oxide photonic integrated circuits (PICs) in a cleanroom environment at The Netherlands’ High Tech Factory site. As we expand our capabilities, we are seeking a Process Engineer to develop and execute advanced testing and characterization methodologies for our photonic devices.

Job Overview

As a Process Engineer, you will work hands-on in a cleanroom environment, developing and optimizing fabrication processes for Al₂O₃-based PICs. You will operate semiconductor processing tools, conduct in-line characterization, and ensure process consistency and reliability. The ideal candidate has experience in lithography, etching, and deposition, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills to optimize process performance. You will also be responsible for tracking process parameters, troubleshooting issues, and supporting process integration workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleanroom Operations: Work hands-on in a cleanroom environment, operating and maintaining semiconductor processing tools.
  • Process Development & Optimization: Develop and refine fabrication processes, including ebeam lithography, photolithography, thin-film deposition (PVD, ALD, CVD), and dry/wet etching.
  • Process Flow & Integration: Define process integration flows, follow standard procedures, and ensure process reproducibility.
  • In-line Characterization: Utilize metrology tools (SEM, AFM, profilometry, ellipsometry, etc.) to assess process quality and performance.
  • Data Analysis & Process Control: Collect and analyze data to track process parameters, identify trends, and ensure yield optimization.
  • Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve process issues, working closely with cross-functional teams to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Planning & Documentation: Plan and execute process runs, document results, and provide detailed reports to support R&D and production.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work effectively with design, integration, and testing teams to align process development with overall company goals.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Nanotechnology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication tools for lithography, etching, and deposition.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize semiconductor processes.
  • Experience with metrology and characterization tools such as SEM, AFM, profilometry, and ellipsometry.
  • Structured and detail-oriented approach to process development and execution.
  • Ability to analyze process data and track performance trends.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.
  • Good planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Preferred
  • Experience working in the Mesa+ Nanolab is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with 100mm or 200mm wafer processing lines.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Programming skills for data analysis (Python, MATLAB, JMP, etc.).
