Job summary

Aluvia Photonics is seeking a Characterization Engineer to develop and execute advanced testing methodologies for aluminium oxide photonics. You will set up characterization tools, acquire equipment, and drive automated, scalable test processes for photonic devices.

You will collaborate with process engineers, integration teams, and designers to generate reliable results that improve fabrication, integration, and device performance. This role is based at The Netherlands and is full-time.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with photonic device characterization, including optical, electrical, and material analysis.
  • Proficiency with optical and electronic testing equipment such as optical spectrum analyzers (OSA), optical power meters, photodetectors, interferometers, and automated probe stations.
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools (Python, LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to diagnose and resolve complex testing challenges.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to develop, document, and maintain robust testing protocols.
  • Effective communication skills and a strong ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop automated and scalable testing protocols for photonic integrated circuits.
  • Identify, acquire, and install testing equipment for photonic characterization and automate workflows.
  • Perform testing and characterization of photonic devices across optical, electrical, and material metrics.
  • Analyze data to evaluate device performance and identify trends for improvements.
  • Collaborate with process, integration, and design teams to optimize fabrication and device efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot testing setups to ensure reliable measurement results.
  • Document methodologies, procedures, and results for traceability and reproducibility.
  • Engage with R&D and production teams to align testing with company objectives.
