Job summary

University Medical Center Utrecht is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to investigate ALS genes and disease-associated cell states at the protein level using multiplexed imaging and cellular models.

You will work with postmortem tissues and iPSC-derived neurons, develop antibody panels, and lead experiments while mentoring PhD and MSc students. Collaboration with ALS Centrum Nederland and translational neuroscience teams is central.

Qualifications

• PhD in neuroscience or related field.
• Hands-on experience in experimental molecular or cellular biology, especially immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy or protein analysis.
• Experience in immunohistochemistry and/or immunocytochemistry, including antibody optimization or validation.
• Ability to design, conduct, troubleshoot and interpret experiments, contributing to shared scientific objectives.
• Strong communication skills and experience presenting and writing scientific research.
• Genuine commitment to team science and active mentorship of PhD and MSc students, supporting their experiments, technical skills and scientific development.

Responsibilities

• Investigate protein localization in postmortem ALS spinal cord and brain tissue and characterize pathological cell states.
• Establish high-dimensional multiplexed protein imaging using MACSima platform and develop antibody panels.
• Examine molecular and cellular consequences of ALS-associated genes in neuronal models (CRISPR iPSC lines).
• Mentor PhD/MSc students and contribute to training and integration within the ALS research team.
• Collaborate across genetics, bioinformatics, and neuropathology groups and contribute to publications.
