Job summary

Planet is hiring for a Platform Engineer in the Netherlands, blending development and operations across Go, Python and Java. You will build scalable APIs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and apply observability and AI tooling throughout the lifecycle.

The role requires strong communication and the ability to work in a distributed European/NA team with occasional on-site work in Haarlem. We value 4+ years of production software experience, cloud familiarity (GCP/AWS), and expertise in

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of production software development in Python/Java/Go.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and development methodologies.
• Familiarity with GCP or AWS and containerized deployments.
• Experience with diverse data storage systems (relational, document, key-value).
• Excellent collaboration, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy and maintain distributed APIs in Go, Java and/or Python with emphasis on customer experience.
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers across teams to align goals.
• Write high-quality, observable production code and perform code reviews.
• Utilize AI tooling responsibly within the development lifecycle.
• Own operation of APIs with SRE practices: monitoring, alerts, runbooks and incident response.
• Participate in on-call rotations for external and internal services.
