Job summary

Planet is looking for a seasoned Platform engineer to contribute to imaging data access and analysis capabilities across Europe and North America. You will work with Go, Python, and Java, deploying scalable services on cloud platforms, and ensure high availability and strong customer experience.

The role is hybrid, requiring presence in Haarlem, Berlin, or Ljubljana three days per week, with asynchronous collaboration across time zones and occasional on-site visits.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development in production environments with Python, Java, and/or Go.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geosciences, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices and development methodologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS) and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy and maintain distributed services and APIs in Go, Java and/or Python with emphasis on customer experience.
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers across multiple cross-functional teams to align product & engineering goals.
• Write high-quality, maintainable, observable, and well-documented production code.
• Participate in code reviews to maintain high code quality and standards.
• Own the operation of these APIs and services with Site Reliability Engineering practices, including alerts and runbooks.
