Job summary

Eastern Health is seeking a Physiotherapy Support Worker (Combined PTA/OTA role) in Grand Bank Blue Crest Nursing Home. The role supports physiotherapists and occupational therapists in treatment of residents, carrying out delegated exercise programs and assistive devices under supervision.

This permanent part-time position reports to the Regional Manager of Allied Health, with duties that may include group interventions and collaboration with the rehabilitation team. Open to external applicants.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of an approved Physiotherapist Assistant or Rehabilitation Assistant Program.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to meet patient goals and overall delivery of Physiotherapy services.
• Ability to utilize clinical judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out delegated physiotherapy and occupational therapy interventions under supervision.
• Assist with mobility exercises, activity plans and assistive devices as directed.
• Support documentation and communication with the rehabilitation team.

Salary: CG-28 ($26.92 - $29.80 per hour)

Job Summary

This position reports to the Regional Manager of Allied Health, with Eastern Health and provides physiotherapist support and occupational therapist support in the treatment of residents. Under the supervision of Clinical Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy services will focus on carrying out delegated exercise programs and plans of care related to mobility. Under the supervision of Clinical Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy services will focus on enhancing performance in self-care, productivity and leisure, as well as assisting with adaptive seating and provision of assistive devices. Other assigned tasks from Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists are possible.

The Physiotherapy Assistant will carry out individual and group interventions with clients as directed by the Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist.

This position maintains accountability to the Regional Professional Practice Consultants for Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Demands

• Regularly lifts or moves objects less than 10 lbs., up to 25 lbs. and lifts and moves patients, limbs (or may utilize a mechanical lift) for exercises.
• Regularly, there is a requirement to physically handle materials for the set up and running of activities.
• Regularly required to stand or walk for extended periods and occasionally required to drive to clients’ homes or community buildings to assist with therapy or to facilitate activities.
• Regularly a variety of body postures including working in awkward or cramped positions, bending, kneeling and stretching and sometimes strength and endurance is required.
• Occasionally operates machinery, equipment, and hand tools that require controlled fine finger work and precision. Visual and Auditory concentration is required.

Job Qualifications

• Successful completion of an approved/recognized Physiotherapist Assistant or Rehabilitation Assistant Program is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to meet patient goals and overall delivery of Physiotherapy services.
• Ability to utilize clinical judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
