Job summary

• Minimum two-year diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or two-year diploma in recreation with program development experience in health care.
• Minimum 1 year experience in Therapeutic Recreation in a long-term care or health care setting.
• Demonstrated problem solving and program planning skills; strong motivation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work with residents respectfully.
• Unrestricted Class IV driver's license; willing to work in a team or independently.
• Satisfactory conduct and attendance; RCMP/local police record check.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation Services as part of the interdisciplinary team.
• Complete leisure inventories and document resident participation and progress.
• Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate recreation activities based on resident needs and interests.
• Assist with activities of daily living and collaborate with the team to ensure safety.
• Report to the Regional Manager and Client Care Manager; promote person- and family-centred care.

Definition of Work

This position is primarily responsible for providing comprehensive TherapeuticRecreation Services. This dynamic individual is a member of theinterdisciplinary team and will be responsible for completing leisureinventories; documentation of resident participation and progress; programplanning; development, implementation and evaluation of diversified recreationparticipation opportunities based on the needs, skills, abilities and interestsof residents; assisting with activities of daily living; and other duties asassigned. Professional practice issues that arise in this position will bereported to the Regional Manager of Therapeutic Recreation Services. Thisposition will report to the Client Care Manager for daily operations. Thesuccessful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible forpromoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate acommitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker andpatient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks andimplementing improvements.

Required qualifications

• Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland andLabrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
• A minimum two-year diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or a two-year diploma inrecreation, with major experience in developing, organizing, and implementingrecreation/leisure programs in health care.
• Minimum 1 year experience, within the last 5 years, in the field ofTherapeutic Recreation in a long-term care or health care setting.
• Demonstrated competencies in problem solving, program planning, and strongmotivation.
• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated positive, respectful and sensitive approach to the needs ofresidents.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a team or with a high degree ofindependence.
• An unrestricted Class IV driver’s license.
• Consistent demonstration of Central Health’s corporate values; Compassion,Accountability, Respect, Stewardship and Quality
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for thisposition.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
