Job summary

Amsterdam UMC invites applications for a Doctoral Candidate to work on the MERIT project within OrganoVIR Labs. The project investigates how EV-A71 infection affects mitochondrial function in brain and neuromuscular organoids to understand viral encephalitis and related paralysis. You will be supervised by Dr.

Adithya Sridhar and Prof. Dasja Pajkrt, contributing to Work Packages 1 and 3 with super-resolution microscopy, ROS assessment, transcriptomics, and electrophysiology to reveal therapeutic

Qualifications

Master’s degree in biomedical sciences, infection, immunity or related fields.
Experience with mammalian cell culture, qPCR and bioinformatics preferred.
Excellent oral and written English (C1/C2).
Interest in multidisciplinary research group.
Mobility rule: no long residence in the Netherlands in the last 36 months.

Responsibilities

Identify mitochondrial changes (localisation, number, size) using super-resolution microscopy.
Evaluate ROS production and its consequences on respiration and bioenergetics.
Sketch transcriptomic changes focusing on mitochondria-specific genes and pathways.
Link viral infection-induced mitochondrial changes to functional effects using electrophysiology.
