Job summary

MERIT (MEtabolic Reprogramming in viral pathogenesis: from Infection to Therapeutic innovations) at LUMC is seeking a doctoral candidate to study how viruses affect lipid metabolism in neurons and glial cells using advanced mass spectrometry. You will contribute to an EU-funded MSCA training programme with secondments across Europe and work under senior researchers in CPM.

You will join the Metabolomics and Mass Spectrometry Imaging groups at LUMC, guided by the listed project leaders, focusing

Qualifications

• Master's degree in analytical chemistry, biomedical sciences or related fields.
• Practical experience with mass spectrometry (LC-MS and/or MALDI-MS-based techniques).
• Preferably, experience with data processing and analysis.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (CEFR level C1/C2).

Responsibilities

• Understand how viral infections modulate lipid biosynthetic pathways in neurons and glial cells.
• Identify lipid classes, species and metabolites affected by viral infections.
• Investigate therapeutic targeting of lipid metabolism for controlling virus-induced neurodegeneration.
