Mechanical Engineer - Lightweight Structures
Mechanical engineer lightweight structures
We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Avular Team!
At Avular, we believe mobile robotics will help make the world a better place, so our products and services accelerate the creation of new mobile robotic applications that shape a brighter future for all. Our goal is to make robots accessible globally and ensure they add value worldwide in the future. Our robots, both on the ground and in the air, are used across industries, always with our purpose in mind: from agriculture to cleaning and from construction to hospitality.
Design and develop lightweight mechanical systems that deliver the required functionality, robustness, cost, and performance. Apply sound construction principles, strength calculations, tolerance stack-up analysis, mechanical systems dynamics, FEM simulation, and knowledge of material properties to substantiate design decisions.
Translate system and stakeholder needs into measurable requirements for mass, strength and stiffness, robustness, cost, manufacturability and technical risk.
Develop competing concepts, evaluate them against those criteria, then recommend and defend the preferred solution to technical and non-technical audiences.
Back up designs with hand calculations, FEM simulation, tolerance stack-up analysis, dynamics and vibration analysis, and material selection.
Work across the mechanical, electrical, control and manufacturing interfaces, and adapt your design when the best system-level trade-off sits outside the mechanical domain.
Produce manufacturing-ready documentation (drawings with GD&T, defined tolerances, assembly instructions) so lightweight parts are built and assembled reliably.
Build and test prototypes, and use the results to refine the design until it is verified.
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline.
4+ years of professional experience designing, calculating and testing mechanical systems, including FEM.
Advanced 3D CAD in Siemens NX, SolidWorks or CATIA, covering large assemblies, interface definition and tolerance specification.
Fluent in spoken and written English.
Nice to have
Lightweight structures experience from drones, aerospace, automotive or high-tech equipment.
Experience with composites (e.g. CFRP) and/or design for low-to-mid-volume manufacturing (CNC, sheet metal, injection moulding, additive).
Siemens NX specifically.
Vibration analysis on structures carrying motors or rotors.
At Avular, work meets play in the best possible way. We're shaping the future of robotics, and we want you along for the ride.
Here's what's waiting for you:
At Avular, we're on a mission to revolutionise robotics:"With gorgeous tech, we accelerate the creation of mobile robotic applications that shape a brighter future for all." From our home base in Eindhoven, we design the tech behind autonomous robots, crafting drones and driving robots from scratch. Are you our new colleague? Adding a motivation letter to your application would also be a big plus.
