Job Summary: At EPEX SPOT, Market Operations is at the core of our business. The Market Operations Auction team monitors various trading platforms and provides essential operational customer support to ensure smooth and uninterrupted processes and communications. With a team of fifteen people spread across Amsterdam and Paris, teamwork, cooperation, and knowledge-sharing are vital to our success. We prioritize seamless and uninterrupted critical business processes, emphasizing reliability, accuracy, and efficiency. This is pivotal, as our power markets directly contribute to the security of supply for Europeans.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Running Markets:
  • Monitor Auction markets to ensure daily trade execution and publication of price references for over 20 daily auctions.
  • Perform daily production tasks, manage production incidents, and coordinate with partners.
  • Provide support to more than 400 EPEX SPOT members, handling client queries and coordinating client setups.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues, ensuring timely provision of correct data and compliance with regulations.
  • Manage operational issues with accurate reporting and follow-up meetings.
2. Coordination with Operational Partners:
  • Coordinate processes and communication with operational partners, including IT, Membership, and Sales/Communication.
  • Communicate regularly with the clearing house ECC and system providers to improve production coordination.
  • Participate in European market coupling operational processes through daily interactions with partners such as TSOs and other power exchanges.
3. Team Improvements:
  • Share information on new markets, products, and system features.
  • Participate in Market Operations training modules.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of internal documentation, procedures, and processes.
  • Follow and improve daily operational activities and processes.
4. Development of New Projects, Products, Markets, and System Releases:
  • Participate in agile Scrum teams for system releases.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new services and products.
  • Join company-wide and third-party European projects, participating in coordination meetings with EPEX colleagues from other teams and departments.
Work Organization:
  • The Market Operations Auction team supports EPEX SPOT markets 365 days per year, organized in rotational shifts (the earliest start at 7:30 hrs and the latest finishes at 19:30 hrs).
  • Team members support up to 2 weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and duty shifts per month on average. Weekend and duty shift start after a six-month onboarding period.
  • Enjoy days off during the week and benefit from an attractive reward system, with the flexibility to work partially from home.
  • Remote working policy allows regular work from home and up to 40 days per year from any country in Europe.
Key Requirements:
Hard Skills:
  • Gain proficiency in monitoring auction markets and ensuring daily trade execution, including the publication of price references and apply knowledge of global electricity markets and energy transition initiatives.
  • Capability to support EPEX SPOT members, addressing client queries and coordinating client setups in trading systems.
  • Acquire knowledge of European market coupling operational processes and interaction with European partners such as TSOs and other power exchanges.
  • Expertise in ensuring the provision of accurate data and reporting in compliance with regulations.
  • Skills in production incident management, identifying and solving operational issues, and coordinating with external and internal parties.
  • Ability to coordinate effective shared processes and communication with operational partners, including IT, Membership, Sales/Communication, and system providers.
Soft Skills:
  • Proactively support and engage with team members in a multi-cultural environment, both on-site and remotely.
  • Maintain a customer-focused mindset, ensuring that client needs and queries are addressed promptly and effectively.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, computer science, or a related energy field.
  • Affinity or strong interest in energy, exchanges, markets, or the energy transition.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an operational team or a comparable job, demonstrating familiarity with the responsibilities and dynamics of operational roles.
Language Skills:
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge of French and/or other European languages is considered a plus.
