Job summary

Artefact, an applied AI company, seeks a Manager of Forward Deployed Engineering to lead AI product delivery for clients, spanning architecture to production. You will guide a team of Deployed AI Engineers, while remaining hands-on where needed and owning client relationships at a senior level.

You will drive technical direction for Gemini Enterprise, Vertex AI, and the Google AI stack, balancing technical leadership with people leadership and pre-sales support.

Qualifications

• 6-9 years of software or data engineering experience with hands-on delivery of AI/LLM-based systems.
• Proven experience leading or managing engineers.
• Strong hands-on experience with Google AI stack (Gemini, Vertex AI, Gemini Enterprise, ADK).
• Experience building and consuming APIs, front-end development (React or similar), and at least one backend framework.
• Hands-on experience with RAG, embeddings, and vector search, and with agentic frameworks (Google ADK, LangGraph/LangChain).
• Proven experience managing or leading a team of engineers — staffing, performance, and development.
• Experience owning client relationships at a senior level: scoping, expectation-setting, and escalation management.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS/Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of full-stack AI applications across one or more client engagements: architecture decisions, risk, and quality.
• Set direction on UI (TypeScript/React) and backend services (Python/Node).
• Review and unblock with orchestration, tool calling, memory, guardrails, and RAG pipelines.
• Make build-vs-buy and platform calls for client AI systems connectivity.
• Set technical standards for Gemini Enterprise, Vertex AI, ADK, and Agent Engine.
• Guide implementation of Gemini Enterprise components: Agent Designer, Inbox, sandboxes, governance.
• Own health of data pipelines and production quality across engagements.
• Manage staffing, workload, performance, and career development of Deployed AI Engineers.
