The NOVA Optical Infrared instrumentation Group at ASTRON in Dwingeloo seeks a Senior Mechanical Designer (Instrument Engineer) to lead the mechanical design of the Visible Spectrograph of MOSAIC for the ELT. You will deliver detailed models and drawings, coordinating with partners and manufacturing teams to ensure successful verification and documentation.

Initial 2-year contract (32-40 hrs/week) with potential to extend.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering.
• 10+ years of relevant opto-mechanical design/engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading opto-mechanical design of precision instruments in international context.
• Proficient in 3D CAD with Siemens NX and FEA with ANSYS.
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Interest in Manufacturing Technologies and Manufacturing Engineering.
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.
• Experience with infrared instruments and cryogenics is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Lead the opto-mechanical design of sub-systems and mechanisms.
• Create detailed designs and drawings for manufacturing.
• Coordinate with external partners and suppliers on design activities.
• Contribute to documentation and analysis reports.
• Provide 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing and as-built drawings.
