Job summary

The NOVA Optical Infrared instrumentation Group at ASTRON in Dwingeloo seeks an experienced Electronics Engineer (Embedded Systems) for a one-year, full-time position. You will develop and deliver an experimental setup for pre-conditioning light in gravitational wave cavities within the MEROPE project, collaborating with physicists, technicians and optical designers.

You will design a breadboard AO setup, run simulations with COMSOL/Zemax, transfer the setup to Nikhef Amsterdam and integrate

Qualifications

Master's degree in electronics, embedded software, or experimental physics.
5+ years of experience developing electronics for optical measurement systems.
Experience with adaptive optics is an advantage.
Proficient in English and Dutch communication.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and test an experimental breadboard setup and control algorithms for an adaptive optics setup.
Simulate and analyze light absorption and thermal effects with COMSOL or Zemax.
Use simulations with the setup to compensate for thermal deformations in gravitational wave cavities.
Transfer and install the breadboard setup at Nikhef (Amsterdam) and integrate into a 1064nm laser cavity.
Document results and report findings to the project team.
