Job summary

Your primary workplace will be in Dwingeloo as part of the NOVA OIR group within ASTRON, leading the mechanical design of the MOSAIC Visible Spectrograph. You will develop detailed models and drawings, and work with international partners to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.

The role requires a strong background in opto-mechanical engineering, 3D CAD (Siemens NX), and FEA (ANSYS), with experience in cryogenics and infrared instruments considered a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering.
• At least 10 years' experience in opto-mechanical design and engineering.
• At least 5 years leading opto-mechanical design of precision instruments in an international context.
• Experienced in 3D CAD design using Siemens NX and FEA using ANSYS.
• Excellent Dutch and English communication skills.
• Experience with infrared instruments and cryogenics is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of the Visible Spectrograph of MOSAIC.
• Create detailed models and drawings of all mechanical components.
• Coordinate with external partners and suppliers on design activities.
• Contribute to documentation and analysis reports.
• Provide 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing and as-built drawings.
