Job summary

Wärtsilä Corporation in Drunen, Netherlands, seeks a Lead Engineer for Thrusters to drive product development of steerable, tunnel, retractable and underwater thrusters. You will lead projects, manage plans and budgets, and collaborate with Mechanical Engineers across Drunen, Helsinki, Trieste, and Wuxi.

Your role involves shaping technology concepts, ensuring designs meet standards, and guiding reviews while contributing to knowledge databases and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field.
• Experience leading product development projects and budgeting in an international matrix organisation.
• High attention to detail with a methodical and practical approach to problem-solving.
• Experience in generating technical drawings and understanding manufacturing processes.
• Fluent in English, strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead product development projects to improve existing thrusters or create new products.
• Develop technology and concepts based on customer/market intelligence aligned with long-term strategy.
• Define project plans with team, timeline, and budget.
• Coordinate multiple development projects across sites (Drunen, Helsinki, Trieste, Wuxi) and with internal/external partners.
• Hold design assurance responsibilities and set priorities for project teams.
• Ensure propulsion designs meet specifications, class rules, and standards.
• Lead design reviews with stakeholders and transfer knowledge to the Thrusters Knowledge Database.
• Provide technical support through development, manufacturing and commissioning.
