Job summary

Backbase in Amsterdam is seeking a Senior+ Engineer who will act as a player-coach, delivering with the squad while remaining deeply technical. You will split time between system design, architecture decisions and hands-on code reviews, debugging, and unblocking the team.

You will lead a squad of 6 to 9 engineers, coach and calibrate performance, hire when needed, and maintain a sustainable, predictable delivery tempo.

Qualifications

5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
Strong grounding in system design and architecture patterns.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, observability and quality-focused development.
Enthusiasm for AI tooling and leading adoption within your team.
T-shaped with deep expertise in at least one area and broad cross-stack knowledge.

Responsibilities

Lead and participate in design reviews, RFCs and architecture decisions.
Contribute through code reviews, debugging production issues and unblocking the team.
Champion modern engineering practices, CI/CD, observability and production readiness.
Spot unrealistic estimates and risky designs before they become problems.
Lead incident response and coordinate during critical incidents.
Drive AI-native engineering adoption within your squad and improve tooling.
Coach engineers, run effective 1:1s and support career development.
