Job description

We are looking for a Knowledge Management Support Engineer to join our Service Team working onsite at the European Space Agency (ESA) in the Netherlands.

Our Akkodis service team supports ESA under a multi-year KM & Library Services contract. This is a hands-on role, embedded in a high-profile technical environment. You will work closely with ESA staff and other team members to capture, organise, and share critical knowledge — ensuring it remains accessible and reusable for years to come. And you will be part of a collaborative, multinational service team, fully managed by Akkodis, with the opportunity to directly contribute to ESA’s missions and engineering excellence.

Akkodis has proudly supported the Aerospace & Defence industry in the Netherlands for decades. Our partnership with ESA has been one of the many success stories allowing our people to expand their career horizons. Akkodis experts are contributing to some of the most important technical advances in Aerospace and Defence which impact the way we live our lives today, through specialised engineering expertise and other required skillsets. This could be your future. Become part of our successful team!

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct structured knowledge capture through interviews, workshops, and review of technical artefacts;
  • Transform captured knowledge into accessible, transmittable formats — text, visuals, and multimedia — using best-fit methods and tools (some of which may differ from ESA’s current systems);
  • Support, organise and coordinate KM events (knowledge transfers, sharing, exchanges), such as KM workshops and conferences, ensuring smooth facilitation and participant engagement;
  • Apply, maintain and, when needed, help develop taxonomies to classify knowledge for easy retrieval;
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to simplify and translate technical content for wider audiences;
  • Track and follow up on knowledge artefact updates, ensuring accuracy and continued relevance.
  • Support the development and the implementation of the ESA KM roadmap and the implementation of EDAS;
  • Support the definition, the design and the implementation of new KM related projects in line with the strategic objectives and directorates needs;
  • Maintain & update the information repository catalogue – an inventory of the master sources of information at ESA;
  • In close collaboration with the relevant stakeholders and process owners, support the identification of requirements from the directorates:
  • Support the evolution of the KM Toolkit by identifying the best suiting technological platform fulfilling the requirements of the ESA Knowledge HUB;
  • In collaboration with ESA Corporate IT, analyse and test KM related platforms, search engines, IT solutions, and tools; and monitoring their use and measuring their effectiveness;. When appropriate, liaise with external parties in charge of KM projects – ensuring duly and timely implementation of agreed requirements;
  • Monitor user engagement and content curation related to KM tools.

To successfully fulfil your key responsibilities, the following background / experience is required:

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering domain, preferably with a certification in the field of Knowledge Management [KM];
  • At least 4 years of proven, hands-on experience in knowledge capturing and transfer, KM (related) methodologies, lessons learned processes, and taxonomy development;
  • Experience in aerospace, space, defence, or high-tech testing environments is highly preferred;
  • Skills in basic visual communication and/or multimedia content creation;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365; familiarity with SharePoint or similar KM platforms;
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills; comfortable engaging with technical experts and senior stakeholders;
  • Ability to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively, in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team and with cross-functional teams;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of library or scientific information services.
  • Familiarity with ESA or other European institutional environments.
  • Experience with change management or process improvement in KM contexts.

What We Offer

  • A role in an international, mission-driven environment;
  • The chance to directly contribute to projects that shape Europe’s space future;
  • A collaborative, supportive team culture within Akkodis;
  • Opportunities for growth, learning, and innovation in KM and related services.
