Job summary

Monday Merch in Rotterdam is seeking a sharp and ambitious Junior Controller to join our Finance team. You will turn financial data into clear insights for founders and department heads, and help ensure accurate month-end close and daily finance operations.

You will own monthly management reporting, keep forecasts current, and model scenarios such as new markets or pricing changes. You’ll work on invoices, VAT, and reconcile bank statements while building cash-flow forecasts.

Qualifications

• Experience in finance or accounting in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills and ability to process large volumes of data.
• Fluent in English; prior experience with Exact Online or Odoo is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly management reporting pack with clear charts and explanations.
• Maintain the P&L and cash-flow forecasts and model scenarios.
• Reconcile invoices and payments across multiple currencies in Exact Online and Odoo.
• Keep KPIs up to date and explain drivers such as margin and costs.
• Serve as Rotterdam finance point of contact with banks and authorities.
• Assist with quarterly VAT returns (NL/OSS) and intra-EU statistics.

We're looking for a sharp and ambitious Junior Controller to join our Finance team in Rotterdam. Monday Merch is a fast-growing scale-up providing customers worldwide with a full-service merchandise solution. You turn our financial data into clear business insights for the founders and department heads, while helping ensure the underlying finance operations run accurately and on time. Most of our 10-person Finance team works remotely. You will be our on-site finance point of contact in Rotterdam and work closely with our remote Head of Finance and founders.

Your Goal

Own our monthly management reporting, keep our forecasts current and help the founders and department heads make better decisions with reliable financial insights. Alongside this, you help ensure our month-end close and daily finance operations run accurately and on time.

Key responsibilities

Own our monthly business reporting and help work on the daily financials behind it. We handle around 16,000 customer invoices and 16,000 supplier bills a year, in several currencies, across Exact Online, Quickbooks, multiple banks, own Odoo ERP, and different entities (NL and US).

• Keep our KPIs up to date, identify important movements and explain what drives them including margin, cost per order, departmental costs and profitability by market.
• Prepare and deliver the monthly management reporting pack by the 10th of each month, including accurate figures, clear charts and a concise explanation of the key developments.
• Build and maintain our P&L and cash-flow forecasts, including the assumptions behind them. Update these throughout the year and use them to model scenarios such as investing in a new machine, entering a new market or changing our prices.
• Provide founders and department heads with clear, reliable answers to financial questions, both during and between reporting cycles.
• Take care of finance-related matters that require a local presence in Rotterdam, such as contact with the bank, the Chamber of Commerce and the Dutch tax authorities.
• Over time, prepare our quarterly VAT returns (NL, UK and OSS) and the intra-EU statistics, together with our Head of Finance and our accountant.
• Help with the monthly close with our Head of Finance and rest of the team and help with checks where needed.
• Process bank statements and match incoming and outgoing payments in Exact Online and Odoo, ensuring there is no outstanding backlog at month-end.
• Improve and automate repetitive finance processes together with our Head of Finance AI & Processes, including statement processing, payment matching and recurring reporting. We would rather you rebuild a process than repeat it.
• Perform and improve key financial controls, including payment-run checks, write-off rules and approval procedures.

What do we offer?

• A clear path to becoming a Controller, with a formal performance, title and salary review after 12 months.
• A gross monthly salary of €3,200-€3,800, depending on your experience (excluding 8% holiday allowance).
