Job summary

Careerstrengo in Utrecht is seeking a Financial Controller - Working Student to join our finance team for at least 6 months, 24 hours weekly, starting mid-Nov/early Dec. You’ll balance daily accounting with month-end reporting and audit prep.

You’ll report to the Financial Controller and assist across reporting, daily bookkeeping, and supporting the audit process, while contributing to process improvements and accurate financial records for a fast-growing SaaS environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed Bachelor's/Master's in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
• Internship or working student experience in accounting/bookkeeping.
• Familiar with month-end processes and financial reporting concepts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with monthly financial reporting, including schedules and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Carry out daily accounting activities such as processing transactions and invoicing.
• Assist with actual vs. budget analysis.
• Support during annual audit with working papers and auditor requests.
• Maintain accurate books and documentation for month-end processes.
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes.

Job description

We are looking for a Financial Controller - Working Student to join our finance team for a minimum 6-month assignment (with possible extension), starting mid-November/early December, for 24 hours per week.

This is a hands-on role for a finance student who is comfortable with daily accounting work while also contributing to month-end reporting and audit preparation. You will report directly to the Financial Controller and act as an extra set of hands across reporting, daily accounting, and audit support.

What your role looks like

• Assist with monthly financial reporting, including preparing schedules, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting documentation;


• Carry out daily accounting activities (processing transactions, bookkeeping, invoice handling, and related administrative tasks);


• Assist with actual vs. budget analysis;


• Assist during the annual audit — including rolling forward working papers, preparing sample documentation, and responding to auditor requests;


• Help maintain accurate books and clean documentation to keep daily accounting and month-end processes running smoothly;


• Support ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed;


• Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes and documentation.

What you’ll bring

We’d love to meet you if you have/are:

• Completing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field (or working towards a professional qualification such as ACCA/CIMA);


• Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration through internships or working student side jobs;


• Comfortable with daily bookkeeping/accounting tasks and eager to also gain exposure to reporting and audit work;


• Basic understanding of month-end processes and financial reporting concepts;


• Good Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables) and general comfort with accounting software;


• Organised, reliable, and comfortable working closely with and taking direction from a Financial Controller;


• Strong communication skills and fluent in English;


• Available for a minimum 6-month assignment, starting mid-November/early December;


• Available for 24-32 hours per week (flexible).
