Job summary

Philips in Eindhoven is seeking an internship in Generative AI Engineering to design and build NLP/LLM-based solutions that address real-world healthcare problems. You will work with Python and ML/DL libraries, contribute to data prep, and collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into data-driven AI projects.

The role requires hands-on NLP/ML/DL experience and active study toward a Bachelor or Master in CS/EE, with on-site attendance at least 3 days per week and flexible start

Job Title: Internship: Generative AI Engineer

Start date: November (we are flexible)

Duration: at least 3 months (with the option to extend)

Type: Internship, Non-Thesis

Weekly presence: 40 hours (32 hours could be an option), at least 3x week on-site

Location: Eindhoven HTC

We're seeking an intern with hands-on expertise in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Generative AI to join our team. In this role, you will design and build innovative and ethically responsible Generative AI solutions that effectively address real-world problems, balancing technical feasibility with user needs and business impact. Working at the intersection of natural language processing and machine learning, you will contribute to developing AI solutions that directly impact patient outcomes and Philips' growth in the healthcare sector.

Your role

• Design, train, and evaluate NLP and LLM-based solutions for various use cases, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), information retrieval & search, chatbots, structured information extraction and named entity recognition, text generation, summarization, and more
• Clean, preprocess, and curate data for evaluation, fine-tuning, and training
• Work closely with stakeholders across the organization to understand business needs, formulate problems, and deliver data-driven insights
• Keep up the latest advancements in generative AI research and integrate new techniques into the development process

You're the right fit if

• You are studying towards your Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• You have at least one year of hands-on experience developing NLP and ML/DL solutions in an academic or professional environment gained during your studies (e.g. internship project)
• You are proficient in Python and relevant libraries for data science and deep learning (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
• You have a strong understanding of classic NLP and experience with with LLMs, such as RAG, prompt engineering, data synthesis, automatic evaluation, and fine-tuning
• You are familiar with cloud computing platforms
• You have excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset are essential
• You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.

We offer you

• Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on your education level and if you need to relocate to The Netherlands.
• Part-time internships receive the allowance pro-rata.

• Should you need to relocate to near our office, we’ll offer you a monthly allowance of €300,- net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, €255,- net for all other Philips locations.
• To be eligible, we’ll just ask for the rental contract from your landlord, and your usual home-work travel distance needs to be more than 50 km or 1.5 hours of travel time (for a one way trip).
• Travel compensation, if you are not eligible for a free public transport card; you will receive max. €192,- net as a monthly allowance.
• Paid holidays per internship term.
• The opportunity to buy Philips products at our Philips shop.
