Job description

As an intern, you will support the Developer Experience team in enhancing Forge, ING’s internal developer platform. Working alongside designers, product managers, engineers, and platform teams, you will help shape experiences that enable engineers to discover, understand, and manage their products more effectively.

A key focus of the internship will be improving how engineers interact with product information in Forge. Through research, design, prototyping, and validation, you will contribute to entity pages, the platform homepage, and overall Productisation Maturity that will help engineering teams understand and continuously improve their products.

The team

The Developer Experience team is responsible for shaping the user experience of ING’s internal engineering ecosystem. We work at the intersection of design, technology, and product management to create intuitive and scalable experiences that help engineering teams build, operate, and evolve their products.

By partnering with engineers, product teams, and platform teams across the organisation, we identify opportunities to reduce friction, improve discoverability, and drive adoption of the tools and services that support software development at ING.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct user research to understand how engineers interact with Forge, including interviews, workshops, surveys, and feedback analysis.

  • Identify pain points, opportunities, and user needs to inform design decisions and platform improvements.

  • Contribute to the design and evolution of Forge experiences, including entity pages and the platform homepage.

  • Create user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and design concepts to explore and validate solutions.

  • Explore how Productisation Maturity insights can be embedded into Forge, helping teams better understand and improve their products.

  • Analyse user feedback, platform usage data, and research findings to evaluate existing experiences and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Prepare presentations and visual materials to communicate research findings, design concepts, and recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Work closely with designers, product managers, engineers, and platform teams to help deliver user-centered solutions.

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in UX Design, Service Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Product Design or a related field.

  • Passion for creating intuitive and engaging digital experiences.

  • Experience with design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Miro, PowerPoint, or similar.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Interest in technology, software development, and developer platforms.

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • A portfolio demonstrating your design process through user research, design thinking, visual design, or digital product work is an advantage.

What We Offer:
  • Hands-on experience designing and improving a developer platform used by engineers across ING.

  • The opportunity to contribute to meaningful initiatives, including the evolution of Forge entity pages, the platform homepage, and Productisation Maturity experiences.

  • Exposure to experienced designers, product managers, engineers, and platform teams.

  • A collaborative and learning-focused environment with mentorship and guidance throughout the internship.

  • Practical experience with user research, service design, UX design, prototyping, and validation in a large-scale enterprise environment.

  • The opportunity to work on real-world challenges that influence how engineering teams interact with products, services, and platform capabilities across ING.
