Erasmus University Rotterdam invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Media and Communication within the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication. The role is 0.8–1 FTE (60% teaching, 40% research) with start on 1 January 2026 at the Woudestein Campus, Department of Media and Communication.

Candidates should have a PhD and strong publications in the field. The position involves teaching at BA and MA levels, developing courses, and pursuing research funding, in a vibrant

Qualifications

• PhD in social sciences, preferably media & communication, among top 10–20% of peer group.
• Strong research track record with publications in international refereed journals.
• Expert knowledge in media and communication, capable of contributing to introductory and specialization courses.
• Broad knowledge of common research methods in media and communication; quantitative/digital methods advantageous.
• Ability to generate research funds and supervise junior researchers and PhD students.
• Prior teaching experience with positive assessments; ability to inspire students at all levels.
• Willingness to teach a wide range of topics and develop new courses.
• Excellent English proficiency; Dutch language passive understanding within two years for international applicants.
• Strong teamwork, organizational and communication skills; experience in international academic settings.
• Willingness to develop knowledge across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Teach at BA and MA levels and conduct innovative research in media and communication.
• Contribute to education in BSc and MA programmes.
• Develop and teach new courses; cover a wide range of topics.
• Supervise PhD students and junior researchers.
• Seek national and international funding for research.
