Job summary

Adyen in Amsterdam is seeking a visionary Head of Engineering to lead Adyen Protect, our ML-first product suite that detects and mitigates payment fraud in real-time across billions of transactions. You will lead four multidisciplinary teams to scale the risk engine and ensure accuracy, transparency, and actionable insights for top merchants.

This role combines big data, predictive modeling, and high-availability systems, with a focus on ethical AI and rapid prototyping.

Qualifications

7+ years of technical experience, including hands-on software or machine learning engineering.
5+ years in manager-of-managers roles overseeing multiple engineering teams.
Experience with high-scale, high-throughput, low-latency systems.
Domain familiarity with fraud detection, risk management, or identity verification.

Responsibilities

Define and execute the technical roadmap for Adyen Protect, aligning ML with global e-commerce needs.
Lead four multidisciplinary teams in scalable infrastructure for model training, real-time scoring, and A/B testing.
Establish and maintain high standards for engineering quality and reliability in fraud detection systems.
Partner with Product Leaders, Risk officers, and other stakeholders to translate fraud patterns into features.
Mentor and grow engineers and engineering managers, fostering inclusive, ethical AI and rapid prototyping.
Interface with our largest global merchants to understand risk profiles and provide actionable insights.
