Job summary

Shapeways in Eindhoven is seeking a Head of Engineering to run our engineering organization and own MES/ERP systems. You will lead a team of 7 engineers across a platform of ~40 services, balancing hands-on coding with people leadership.

You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate with operations, sales, and marketing to translate needs into strategic plans while driving AI-enabled workflows to accelerate delivery.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience leading engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on experience with PHP/Symfony and relational databases (MySQL).
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate work across teams.
• Experience with modern infrastructure practices (Kubernetes, GitOps, containerization).
• Ability to translate requests from operations, sales, and marketing into actionable plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering team day to day across ~40 services.
• Coach and hire, shaping day-to-day workflows and team structure.
• Prioritize AI investments and drive adoption of AI-powered workflows.
• Own project prioritization, sequencing, and communication of trade-offs.
• Contribute hands-on to the codebase within CTO-approved architecture.
