MODIFI GmbH is seeking an experienced Head of Accounting & Tax to lead global financial reporting, audits, tax, and consolidation efforts. The role reports to the CEO and collaborates with Treasury and Corporate Finance leaders.

You will manage an internal team and external providers, driving IFRS consolidations across subsidiaries and an offshore SPV, while implementing AI-driven automation to optimize processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of finance/accounting experience.
• 3+ years in a management role overseeing teams.
• Big 4 background (EY/PwC/Deloitte/KPMG) or top-tier audit firm at Manager/Senior Manager level.
• Strong IFRS reporting and multi-entity/multi-currency consolidation experience.
• Experience managing external service providers (audits, tax, accounting).
• Fluent English with executive presence.

• Own end-to-end IFRS consolidation and financial reporting processes.
• Lead external audits and manage accounting/tax service providers across regions.
• Mentor and lead the accounting team; oversee monthly close and reporting.

We are looking for an experienced Head of Accounting & Tax to lead our financial reporting, audit, tax and consolidation functions. Working as a peer alongside the Head of Treasury and Head of Corporate Finance, you will manage our global accounting across MODIFI's various group companies. You will manage an internal team as well as our external service providers for bookkeeping, accounting and tax as well as our audit partners.

This role is based in Amsterdam or Berlin (if based in Amsterdam, onboarding will be in Berlin). You will report directly to the CEO.

Role & Responsibilities

• Hands-On Group Accounting & IFRS Consolidation: Own the end-to-end execution, preparation, and closing of standalone and consolidated financial statements under IFRS across all MODIFI subsidiaries and a refinance-SPV in Luxemburg with precision.


• Audit & External Service Management: Drive our group-wide external audits and actively manage local accounting and tax service providers in the Netherlands, Germany, Luxemburg, India, China and UAE.


• Operational Execution & Team Leadership: Roll up your sleeves to perform, review and QA monthly bookkeeping, general ledger entries, board reports and accounting workflows alongside mentoring your team.


• Tax Compliance & Quality Assurance: Enforce strict quality assurance on all tax filings, global planning, corporate income tax, VAT/GST, and payroll tax compliance.


• Internal Controls & Process Standardization: Establish and enforce internal financial controls and standard operating procedures to avoid errors.


• AI Mastery & Automation: Leverage and implement modern AI tools, automation, and tech-driven workflows to streamline daily bookkeeping, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, data reconciliation and QA processes.


• Direct Executive Reporting: Build a strong relationship with the executive leadership and your peers, working as a valued business partner and deliver highly accurate financial outputs directly to the executive leadership.

• Experience: 5+ years of finance/accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a team management capacity.


• Big 4 Background: Strong foundation built over 4+ years at a Big 4 (EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG) or top-tier audit firm (Manager/Senior Manager level).


• Technical & AI Proficiency: Deep expertise in IFRS reporting, multi-entity/multi-currency consolidations, and audit management, combined with proven mastery in applying AI/automation tools to modern accounting, bookkeeping, and QA tasks.


• Uncompromising Eye for Detail: A deeply hands-on mindset, getting dirty in the ledgers and prioritizing top-quality execution over delegation.


• Certifications: Ideally active CPA, ACCA, ACA or local equivalent certification (e.g., Wirtschaftsprüfer / Steuerberater).


• Location & Travel: Based in Amsterdam or Berlin, with full flexibility to spend the first few months on-site in Berlin for onboarding if based in Amsterdam.


• Communication: Fluent English skills with executive presence to manage external providers and report directly to C-level stakeholders.
