GEHECO, a green-tech startup in the Greater Rotterdam Area, is seeking a pragmatic geotechnical engineer to help bring ground-bounded heat pumps to the mass market. You will contribute to the geotechnical design of the drilling product, apply soil mechanics knowledge, and collaborate with a small, autonomous team to solve real-world challenges while learning by doing every day.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical focus.
• Several years of work experience in geotechnical engineering or related research.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software and design tools.
• Strong problem-solving, pragmatic mindset and hands-on attitude.
• Flexible, collaborative, and capable of working in a startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Understand geotechnical aspects of drilling and input soil mechanics to the drilling product design.
• Create design solutions during product development and advance the geotechnical aspects of the solution.
• Test and Learn by engaging in multiple roles to optimize learning and outcomes.
• Collaborate in a small team to improve the product and drive projects forward.

Are you passionate about technology and the environment? Our start-up in the green tech industry is seeking enthusiastic individuals eager to gain hands-on experience and make a difference in the world of sustainable technology and energy transition.

Key Responsibilities / What you will do:

• Understanding the geotechnical aspects of drilling; with your extensive knowledge of the soil mechanics, you will provide valuable input to the design of the drilling product. It is a plus, if you worked on projects with soil or drilling up to 50m deep.
• Create design solutions while developing the product; during the development of our products, problems will have to be solved with innovative design solutions. You will be responsible for bringing in the geotechnical aspects to advance the development.
• Test & Learn: when testing the prototypes, you will engage in several roles, to make the test successful and optimize the learning effects.
• Collaboration; we are a small team where every individual counts. We need your analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to improve our product and drive our projects forward.
• Flexibility; Our small team does not allow us to set strict fixed roles, so while your main tasks will be as described, every individual is required to also take various other tasks as required by the company.
• Engage in problem-solving exercises, learn by doing on a daily basis and contribute fresh perspectives to the development of the GEHECO product.

What you bring:

• You are a very pragmatic and enthusiastic individual with a master degree in Civil Engineering, track Geotechnical Engineering, or related technical fields.
• Preferably several years of work experience in the field of geotechnical engineering,or doing research (related to our topic).
• Passion for making things work. Your practical talent to create a real, working solution is what counts most. You have a passion for making stuff work and are able to support the mechanical development of our solution. Being able to analyze your work and come up with rapid solutions to improve it.
• Pragmatism; what works works. Solutions do not have to be perfect, fit for purpose is what we need at this point.
• Digital skills; you need sufficient knowledge of 3D CAD software to support the creation of detailed designs.

Your personality:

• You are flexible and able to cope with the uncertainties (and freedom!) of working at a start-up. Plans may change overnight; structures are not yet firmly in place. You need to deliver on the goal, but how you do it is very much up to you.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a desire to learn and grow in a dynamic environment.
• Strong collaborative and pragmatic mindset willing to learn by experimenting and doing.
• Passion for green technology and sustainability initiatives.
