Your role
We're looking for a strong GL Accountant who will take ownership of payroll accounting as a core part of a broader finance role. You won't need in-depth knowledge of local payroll legislation — the company's external payroll provider manages compliance and legislative rules across EMEA. Your role is to ensure the accounting side is accurate: validating data going to the provider, checking their output, and making sure everything lands correctly in the ledger.
Payroll accounting occupies a defined part of the month; for the remainder, you'll be fully embedded in the wider Finance team, supporting month-end close, reconciliations, reporting, and ad hoc projects. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager – EMEA, you'll work closely with the finance team and the external payroll provider.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and post payroll journals and reconcile payroll reports, payments, and payroll‑related general ledger accounts.
- Validate payroll data before submission to the external payroll provider, and critically review the provider's output for accuracy before sign‑off.
- Ensure amounts relating to stock options, RSUs, bonuses, commissions, and other variable compensation are correctly reflected in the accounts.
- Maintain audit‑ready payroll records and general ledger documentation; support internal and external audits.
- Act as the internal point of contact on payroll accounting matters, liaising closely with the external payroll provider and Finance leadership.
- Review and process expense reports, ensuring correct recording and timely payment.
- For the remainder of the month, provide broader support to the Finance team: reconciliations, reporting, month‑end close activities, and finance projects as needed.
- Recommend improvements to payroll accounting processes and controls.
Your profile
- A strong background as a General Ledger Accountant, with solid technical accounting skills — this is an accounting role first, payroll‑focused second.
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience working alongside or reviewing output from an external payroll provider is a strong plus; no legislative/payroll law expertise is required.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and standard finance/expense platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability.
- Well‑organised, structured, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines with close attention to detail.
- A positive, approachable personality — you'll be a key point of contact across the business.
- Native fluency in English required; additional European languages preferred.
