Job description

FPGA Engineer | Semiconductor, Medical & Aerospace

Do you think in clock cycles and timing margins? We're looking for an FPGA Engineer who can turn complex system requirements into firmware that performs reliably down to the nanosecond — for high-tech machines in the semiconductor, medical and aerospace industries

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an FPGA Engineer, you design and implement VHDL-based firmware for complex electronic and mechatronic systems, where reliability, timing accuracy and efficient hardware/software interaction are critical.

You own the full development cycle — from requirements and firmware architecture through to implementation, simulation and validation, both in the lab and in real machine environments. You're the go-to expert for all things FPGA, working side by side with electronics architects and engineers across software, electronics and mechatronics to deliver scalable, robust solutions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Design, develop and modify VHDL firmware for FPGA-based systems
  • Define and document functional and technical requirement
  • Implement, simulate and verify VHDL designs, from RTL to timing closure
  • Test and validate firmware in lab environments and machine modules
  • Develop and maintain hardware/software interfaces
  • Debug FPGA designs using advanced tools and measurement equipment
  • Act as the primary point of contact for FPGA questions within projects
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions
WHAT YOU BRING
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of FPGA design experience in VHDL (RTL, synthesis, compilation, timing closure)
  • Experience with FPGA design tools such as Altera Quartus and/or Xilinx ISE
  • Experience with simulation tools such as ModelSim and/or QuestaSim (functional and gate-level)
  • Hands‑on experience with FPGA debugging tools (ILA, ChipScope, SignalTap) and lab equipment
  • An analytical, pragmatic, proactive and solution-oriented mindset
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English; Dutch is a plus
  • Strong organisational, time-management and prioritisation skills
  • Affinity with mechatronics and control systems is a plus
WHAT WE OFFER

A challenging environment, a competitive salary and the chance to play a key role in the growth of an innovative company. We're an enterprising R&D organisation where "strength through collaboration" is central — and we genuinely value a collegial, pleasant place to work.
