Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield Netherlands seeks a Financial Controller to deliver full controllership across all Dutch entities. You will oversee month-end close, reporting, audits, and compliance, ensuring data accuracy in US GAAP and Dutch GAAP contexts.

The role collaborates with internal teams and external auditors to strengthen controls and reporting quality. Ideal candidates bring extensive experience in a BPO/shared services model, strong English skills, and familiarity with core reporting systems

Qualifications

  • Post-qualification experience of more than 10 years.
  • Experience in managing month end close in a BPO/Shared service model.
  • Strong English communication; Dutch is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Close & reporting: monthly closing of the books (US GAAP) in line with Global & EMEA deadlines.
  • Produce, review, explain variances, and sign off on reporting and disclosures.
  • Balance sheet control: monthly balance reconciliations per group requirements.
  • Revenue recognition & debtors: ensure accurate revenue recognition and manage bad debt allowances.
  • Audits & statutory financial statements: support local accounts and audits.
  • Compliance & control: ensure financial controls and SOX controls are in place.
  • Collaboration: work with internal/external stakeholders across functions.
  • Process improvements: enhance processes and controls for timely data recording.

Financial Controller - The Netherlands

Job Description Summary

The individual will support the EMEA Finance Operations Controller to deliver Financial Control for all entities in the Netherlands. The role is responsible for ensuring all financial data and reporting is complete, accurate and complies with Global, Regional and Local legislation, regulation, polices and processes. The role is responsible for all aspects of Finance Controllership delivery for the Netherlands including external and internal audits plus full oversight and management review of all accounting activities impacting the entities within scope. The individual should proactively adopt the outsourced finance operating model and core technology and support driving efficient, effective, aligned processes.

Key Responsibilities:
Close & Reporting
  • Responsible for accurate, timely, monthly closing of the books (in US Gaap) in accordance with Global & EMEA deadlines, policies and compliance requirements.
  • Responsible for the timely production, management review, variance explanations, query resolution and sign off of all reporting and disclosures requirements.
Balance Sheet Control
  • Perform monthly reviews of balance reconciliations in accordance with Group reporting requirements
Revenue Recognition & Debtors
  • Perform contract reviews where required and support the execution of accurate revenue recognition control
  • Ensure bad debt allowances are in accordance with policy and support the achievement of DSO targets
Audits & Statutory Financial Statements
  • Support production, review, approval and filing of all local statutory accounts (Dutch GAAP) within the local filing deadlines.
  • Support local statutory audits
Compliance & Control
  • Responsible for ensuring financial controls are performed and appropriately designed
  • Support all SOX controls (including SOX 302 sub-certification process)
Collaboration with other stakeholders
  • Collaboration with all internal (BPO, HR, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, Senior Management) and external stakeholders (auditors, legal and tax advisors)
Process improvements
  • Support improvements to processes and controls that ensure data is recorded accurately and on a timely basis, including change management and training
Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in managing month end close process within a BPO / Shared service model
  • Experience managing audits and statutory accounts process - audit background and SOX control experience preferred
  • Financial management experience with a proven ability to translate financial data into commercial language
  • Possesses deep understanding of controllership activities within the context of a global professional services business
  • Post qualification experience of more than 10 years
  • Knowledge and expertise of US Gaap
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, Dutch is of an advantage
  • Preferred: knowledge of core reporting systems, HFM & Workday, Essbase, Local Gaap/IFRS, SOX
