Job summary

Connect44 Sarl in Amsterdam is seeking an experienced Fiber Network Planner to design and optimise fiber infrastructure, including backbone and access networks, route planning, duct layouts, and capacity planning.

You will collaborate with external contractors and internal teams, conduct site surveys, maintain up-to-date network documentation, and ensure accurate as-built records in Cocon and related systems. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential.

Job description

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and design fiber-optic network infrastructure (backbone, access, FTTx, passive networks), including route planning, duct and cable layout, and capacity planning
• Interface with third-party fiber contractors and manage the integration of external fiber into the company’s network
• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies to assess optimal fiber routes and integration scenarios
• Prepare and maintain network documentation, including design drawings, as-built plans, network inventory, capacity, and asset databases
• Register as-built information in Cocon and other relevant systems
• Monitor fiber network performance and reliability, and plan future upgrades and network extensions

What we are looking for:

• Solid knowledge of fiber-optic technology (FTTx/backbone, passive fiber networks, cabling, duct routes, splicing basics), including network topology, capacity, routing, and fiber types
• Proven experience in fiber network planning and design
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Cocon, Microsoft Office Suite, and relevant planning tools
• Experience in cost estimation, capacity planning, and risk analysis
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise internally (engineering, operations, sales/pre-sales) and externally (contractors, third-party fiber suppliers)
• High attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records (e.g. registering cable packs, checking RFS documentation)
• Strong analytical skills, including demand analysis, capacity forecasting, and planning for future growth

Nice-to-Haves:

• Previous experience within a large network operator, telecom company, or ISP environment
• Knowledge of permit processes and regulatory requirements
• Experience with both company-owned fiber deployments and third-party or leased (dark) fiber, including hybrid network planning
• Ability to support pre‑sales or business teams with technical input, feasibility studies, and fiber network analyses for expansion projects
