Job summary

Penta Consulting is seeking a Telecom/Fiber Backbone Engineer for a 12+month contract based in the Netherlands. The role focuses on migrating microwave links to fiber, DWDM configurations, and fiber network upgrades.

You will work at client sites handling cabinet swaps, patching, and verification of optical links. Ideal candidates have several years in telecom engineering, with solid fiber backbone and DWDM experience, and hold a valid NEN 3140 safety certificate.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience in telecommunications engineering.
• Fiber backbone technology experience required; FTTH-only experience not sufficient.
• Good knowledge of telecom infrastructures and fiber networks.
• Experience with fiber patching, cleaning and testing.
• Knowledge of DWDM principles.
• Basic scripting exposure; developing scripts not required.
• Valid NEN 3140 electrical safety certification.

Responsibilities

• Review online schedule and prepare work plans.
• Travel to assigned site and perform planned activities.

Penta Consulting are a technology service provider and industry-leading outsourced partner. We've specialised in providing professional and managed services to OEMs, system integrators, and financial services providers globally as well as IT and Telco companies for over 26 years.

We are looking to bring on board a Telecom/Fiber Backbone Engineer to support one of the biggest Telecommunication vendors in the world. This role is going to be a 12 Month + Extendable contract, i am also looking for someone based in Netherlands.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently reviewing the online schedule and preparing the work.
• Driving to the assigned site and carrying out the planned activities.
• Migrating microwave links to fiber optic connections under guidance from remote support.
• Supervising and carrying out telecom cabinet swaps, including:
• Removing existing equipment.
• Installing new equipment.
• Performing patching activities.
• Connecting and verifying fiber optic links.
• Troubleshooting optical connections, such as analyzing and resolving CRC errors within a fiber ring, in cooperation with remote support.
• Installing and configuring DWDM filters so that multiple optical signals can be combined over a single fiber connection.
• Converting fiber rings from a chain topology into a combination of chain and point-to-point structures.

Key Qualifications:

• Demonstrable, several years of experience in telecommunications engineering.
• Proven experience with fiber backbone technology; FTTH-only experience is not sufficient.
• Good knowledge of telecom infrastructures and fiber optic networks.
• Experience with fiber patching, cleaning, and testing.
• Knowledge of and experience with DWDM principles.
• Basic knowledge of working with command-based scripts and the ability to load/apply existing scripts. Developing scripts independently is not required.
• Valid NEN 3140 electrical safety certification.
