Job summary

The European Patent Office (EPO) seeks a European Patent Examiner in Applied Maths, AI and Quantum Computing. You will assess patent applications for novelty and inventive step, using digital search tools and international collaboration to ensure high-quality decisions.

Hybrid work arrangement with relocation to The Hague or German sites. Starting from 2027, with a two-year examiner training program delivered in English.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a technical field such as AI, math, physics, or engineering.
• Excellent knowledge (C1) of English, French or German and ability to understand the other two; or English C1 with commitment to learn missing languages.

Responsibilities

• Examine patent applications in one of English, French or German.
• Analyse novelty and inventive step of new inventions.
• Conduct in-depth research using patent databases and scientific sources to identify relevant prior art.
• Apply legal and procedural EPC framework to decisions on patent grant.
• Communicate findings clearly with applicants and parties.
• Collaborate with international colleagues in a diverse environment.
• Maintain high-quality standards with rigorous scientific approach.
• Contribute to Europe’s innovation ecosystem by upholding EPC texts.
