Job summary

DAF is seeking an Engine and EAS Simulation Engineer to optimize internal combustion engine performance and emissions, bridging thermodynamics with virtual validation within Randstad Professional's client projects.

You will work in the Concept Development team, perform 1D engine simulations in GT-Suite, calibrate models, develop ML approaches for emissions and engine performance, and deliver actionable recommendations to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in internal combustion engines.
• At least 3 years of simulation experience in the automotive engine industry (heavy-duty diesel preferred).
• Proven MATLAB expertise for data analysis, model development, and automation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct 1D engine simulations, optimizations, and advanced model developments in GT-Suite.
• Calibrate DI-pulse combustion and emission models against experimental data.
• Develop ML models for emissions, engine performance and EAS.
• Develop and execute integrated engine and EAS simulations for tailpipe emissions, including potential chemical kinetics in GT-Suite xChem.
• Analyze results, translate findings into actionable recommendations, and present to stakeholders.
• Enhance model accuracy, efficiency, robustness, and explore novel technologies and control concepts.

For our client's DAF - a major manufacturer of trucks, active in the international transport sector - we are looking for anEngine and EAS Simulation Engineer.

Are you ready to shape the future of heavy-duty powertrain technologies and tailpipe emission reduction? As an Engine and EAS Simulation Engineer at Randstad Professional, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing internal combustion engine performance and emissions for leading automotive clients.

In this dynamic position, you will join the Concept Development team and report directly to the Engineering Supervisor. Your core mission is to bridge theoretical thermodynamics with virtual validation to design sustainable powertrain solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct 1D engine simulations, optimizations, and advanced model developments within GT-Suite.
• Calibrate DI-pulse combustion and emission models against experimental measurement data.
• Machine learning model development for emissions, engine performance and EAS
• Develop and execute integrated engine and Exhaust Aftertreatment System (EAS) simulations for tailpipe emissions (including potential chemical kinetics in GT-Suite xChem).
• Analyze simulation outcomes, translate technical findings into actionable recommendations, and present conclusions to key stakeholders.
• Continuously enhance model accuracy, computational efficiency, robustness, and usability while initiating developments for novel technologies and control concepts.

Requirements

You are successful when:

• You hold a Master’s degree (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in internal combustion engines.
• You have at least 3 years of simulation experience in the automotive engine industry (preferably heavy-duty diesel engines).
• You have proven experience using MATLAB for data analysis, model development, and simulation automation.
• You have deep technical knowledge of thermodynamics, engine performance, combustion, and controls.
