Job summary

Zonneplan is seeking a Data Scientist for the Trading & Optimization team in the Netherlands. You will develop probabilistic forecasting models, optimization algorithms, and real-time control systems to enhance energy trading and battery management.

You will deploy models to production, monitor performance, and work with engineers and traders to translate insights into business value. This role emphasizes initiative, ownership, and staying at the forefront of AI in energy.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a data scientist, preferably in energy, finance, or related fields.
• Strong foundation in statistics and machine learning, with proven experience in forecasting or time series analysis.
• Proficiency in Python at a production level, including deploying and monitoring models in live environments.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
• Ability to translate model outputs into business value and make data-driven decisions.
• Ownership mindset: capable of managing models from development to deployment and real-time adjustment.
• Curiosity and proactive approach towards AI and machine learning advancements.
• Excellent command of the Dutch language at a professional level.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement probabilistic forecasting models for energy demand, supply, and trading opportunities.
• Build and optimize algorithms for battery management, energy trading, and grid stability.
• Deploy models into a live environment, monitor performance, and make real-time adjustments as needed.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, traders, and other stakeholders to ensure models align with business goals.
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate development and enhance model accuracy and efficiency.
• Translate data insights into actionable strategies that contribute to plan Zero.
• Participate in continuous learning and experimentation to stay at the forefront of AI and energy technology.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and operational standards.
