Job summary

Zonneplan is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Trading & Optimization team. You will build probabilistic forecasting models for energy trading and grid management, integrating forecasting with optimization and control to enable real-time decisions.

You will collaborate with engineers and traders, deploy models live, monitor performance, and push continuous improvements, using AI tools like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot. Fluent Dutch is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a data scientist with a strong foundation in statistics and machine learning.
• Proven experience in forecasting or time series analysis.
• Proficiency in Python at a production level, including deploying and monitoring models in live environments.
• Experience with or interest in AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
• Ability to translate models into measurable business impact and financial outcomes.
• Ownership mentality with the capacity to manage models from development to operational deployment.
• Curiosity and proactive approach to following developments in AI and machine learning.
• Fluent in Dutch at a professional level, with excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy, and maintain probabilistic forecasting models for energy trading and grid management.
• Integrate forecasting, optimization, and control models to support real-time decision-making processes.
• Work closely with engineers and traders to ensure models are operationally effective and aligned with business goals.
• Monitor model performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements proactively.
• Leverage AI tools such as Claude Code to accelerate development and enhance model capabilities.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
• Participate in team discussions and initiatives to innovate and optimize energy trading strategies.
