Job summary

Zonneplan is seeking a Data Scientist for the Trading & Optimization team in the Netherlands. You will develop probabilistic forecasting models, optimization algorithms, and real-time control systems to enhance energy trading and battery management.

You will deploy models to production, monitor performance, and work with engineers and traders to translate insights into business value. This role emphasizes initiative, ownership, and staying at the forefront of AI in energy.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a data scientist, preferably in energy, finance, or related fields.
• Strong foundation in statistics and machine learning, with proven experience in forecasting or time series analysis.
• Proficiency in Python at a production level, including deploying and monitoring models in live environments.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
• Ability to translate model outputs into business value and make data-driven decisions.
• Ownership mindset: capable of managing models from development to deployment and real-time adjustment.
• Curiosity and proactive approach towards AI and machine learning advancements.
• Excellent command of the Dutch language at a professional level.

About The Role

As a Data Scientist within our Trading & Optimization team, you will operate at the intersection of energy and artificial intelligence. Your work will have a direct and measurable impact on the energy grid by developing advanced forecasting models, optimization algorithms, and real‑time control systems. You will be responsible for building an integrated suite of models that leverage probabilistic forecasting, optimization, and operational control to enhance energy trading strategies and battery management. The role involves close collaboration with data scientists, engineers, and traders in a flat organizational structure that encourages initiative and ownership. Your models will run live in a production environment, and you will be the first to intervene if adjustments are needed, ensuring optimal performance and impact.
