Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Data & Power BI Engineer to design and deliver enterprise-grade reporting and analytics within a financial services setting. You will transform raw data into strategic insights, supporting regulatory decision-making.

Join a banking technology team delivering data models, Azure Synapse ELT pipelines, and Power BI dashboards. You will contribute across SSRS and Tableau environments while collaborating with Product Owners and Analysts.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse pipelines or Databricks.
• Experience with Databricks (PySpark) or Azure Synapse (SQL pools, pipelines) in real projects.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server / T-SQL and ELT-based data transformation concepts.
• Proven track record in enterprise data modelling (Star Schema/Snowflake Schema).
• Extensive experience developing Power BI reports, dashboards, DAX calculations, and tabular models/cubes.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Azure Synapse Analytics-based data solutions including ELT and T-SQL transformations.
• Develop rich Power BI reports, dashboards, DAX calculations, and tabular models/cubes.

About Role:

As a Data and Power BI Engineer, you will make an impact by designing and delivering enterprise-grade reporting and analytics solutions that support critical business and regulatory decision-making within a complex financial services environment. You will be a valued member of the banking technology team, working collaboratively with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and cross-functional stakeholders to transform raw data into strategic insights that drive decisions at scale.

This is not just a technical role — it is a high-impact position where your expertise in data modelling, semantic layers, and cloud-native analytics will directly shape how the business understands and acts on its data. You will operate at the intersection of data engineering and business intelligence, supporting regulatory reporting, performance analytics, and enterprise data quality across multiple applications.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Design and develop enterprise data models using Star Schema (preferred) and Snowflake Schema approaches that form the backbone of scalable, high-quality reporting solutions
• Build and maintain Azure Synapse Analytics-based data solutions, including ELT and T-SQL data transformation processes that ensure reliable data flow from source to insight
• Develop rich Power BI reports, dashboards, DAX calculations, and tabular models/cubes that translate complex business requirements into intuitive, decision-ready visuals
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners and Business Analysts to capture and convert reporting requirements into scalable data products across multiple banking applications
• Maintain and support centralized reporting environments, including SSRS and Tableau solutions, ensuring data quality and consistency across the full analytics landscape

Requirements

What You Must Have

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines, using Azure Data Factory, Synapse pipelines or Databricks. The candidate should be able to talk through a pipeline they built themselves, and not only one they monitored or supported.
• Databricks or Azure Synapse used in an actual project, and not only listed under skills. For Databricks we would look for PySpark and Delta Lake, and for Synapse, SQL pools and pipelines.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server / T-SQL and ELT-based data transformation and data engineering concepts
• Proven track record in enterprise data modelling, including Star Schema (strongly preferred) and Snowflake Schema designs
• Extensive experience developing Power BI reports, dashboards, DAX calculations, and tabular models/cubes for business-critical environments
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or an equivalent field

These Will Help You Stand Out

• Working knowledge of SSRS and Tableau for centralized and regulatory reporting
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices as applied to analytics and BI solution delivery pipelines
• Relevant professional certifications such as Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate or Azure Data Engineer Associate
• Strong stakeholder collaboration skills with demonstrated experience working alongside Product Owners and Business Analysts
