Job summary

Jump Recruitment Specialists is seeking a Construction Safety Officer for a hands-on role with a local heavy civil contractor in St. John’s, NL.

You will lead safety program implementation, conduct on-site orientations, and manage safety documentation across projects. You will perform incident investigations, develop and review site-specific safety plans, and conduct regular inspections and toolbox talks to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety Program is preferred.
• Committee Training and/or experience is advantageous.
• Knowledge of Power Line Hazards and WHMIS is required.
• Standard First Aid is expected.
• Traffic Control Training is beneficial for site operations.
• Supervisory Training and/or experience is valued.
• Trenching and Excavation knowledge is essential for field work.
• Fall Protection Training is expected for elevated work.
• Confined Space awareness is required.
• Development and implementation of safe work practices and procedures is expected.
• Hazard Recognition Evaluation, inspections, analysis and control are part of daily safety tasks.
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance and inspections is beneficial.
• Understanding Site-Specific Safety Plans is important.

Responsibilities

• Address all safety concerns brought forward by all site personnel.
• Accident investigations for all accidents, incidents, near misses or injuries.
• Ensure all incidents are properly recorded with correct actions recommended and completed.
• Prepare, review, and monitor site-specific safety plans, hazard assessments, safety checklists and risk assessments.
• Perform on-site safety orientation for all employees.
• Organize and conduct toolbox meetings.
• Conduct site inspections in conjunction with foreman or superintendent.
• Compile documentation regarding safety throughout the project duration (daily/weekly/monthly reports).
