Job description

Most deep tech investors say they do early stage. Here we actually do it. And we don't just bring capital. We bring a team that can spot growth potential early on and has the execution power to help founders turn it into something real. That hands‑on approach is not a service we offer on the side. It’s rooted in our culture and a big part of how we operate. Backed by institutional investors like PME Pensioenfonds, regional investment funds, Dutch universities and strategic partners like ASML, Philips and TNO, who have been providing our teams with technology access, commercial pathways, and talent: engineers and specialists who join our ventures and make them stronger.

We’re currently halfway through deploying our first fund of €118M in fast growing innovative startups and scale‑ups that help build new technological ecosystems focusing on new complex technologies such as photonics, complex mechanical engineering, semiconductors, space and quantum computing. We are now building our next chapter: coming to market with a separate dedicated Defense, Resilience and Security fund targeted to launch before year‑end. This fund will specifically target more developed dual‑use deep tech companies that will not only deliver attractive returns for our investors, but also reinforce Europe’s sovereignty, resilience, and global competitiveness. Help shaping that fund and bringing it to market will be one of your key responsibilities.

Our team is international and multidisciplinary. Investors, operators, scientists and engineers who’ve built companies across Europe and understand what it takes to turn early‑stage science into a growing business. As Co‑Managing Partner, you share ownership of venture outcomes alongside Teska van Vuren and partners Sebastiaan Ranner, Matthieu Mutz and Stéphane Mutz. Together, you help set the direction for the portfolio, raise the bar for the team, and build the firm that builds the ventures.

Your role as Co‑Managing Partner at DeepTechXL

There are not many dedicated deep tech VCs in Europe. What we've built is rare, and this is the moment to take it further. You lead us into that next phase alongside Teska van Vuren. Where Teska brings deep expertise in finance, M&A and corporate governance, you bring the experience, entrepreneurial drive, vision and the network that opens doors. You inspire a team that’s moving fast, build the relationships with founders, corporates, co‑investors and institutions that matter, and make sure the right people are in the room at the right moment. You’re also a driving force behind our Defence, Resilience and Security fund, from sharpening the thesis to closing investments and building a portfolio that defines the category. You and Teska divide responsibilities in a way that plays to both your strengths. Together you lead a growing group of investment managers, analysts and technical specialists. You help set the standard on how we assess opportunities, how we challenge founders, how we make decisions, and how we deal with setbacks. You define what success looks like, and you build the culture that keeps it there as we scale. This means you’ll:

• Help shape the future of the firm as we launch our next fund before year‑end, with the opportunity to define investment thesis, portfolio strategy and set the standard for the next generation of ventures.
• Build and lead a high performing team that sets the bar for deep tech investing in Europe. You help build the culture, the standards and the operating rhythm.
• Serve as a trusted counterpart to founders, corporates, knowledge institutes and institutional investors, and a sparring partner on the toughest strategic calls.
• Position the firm as the authority in deep tech venture building through thought leadership, media, events and strategic PR that attracts the best founders and capital to our platform.

The partner we're looking for

This is not a first‑time partner role. We’re looking for someone who has done this before and knows what it takes to scale (deep) tech companies.

• Ideally, you currently work as a partner at a technology focused VC firm and carry direct responsibility for investment decisions and portfolio outcomes.
• You have a successful track record of investments with hands‑on experience taking science‑driven or tech companies from early stage through Series B+, navigating long term timelines and capital‑intensive cycles.
• You have managed a significant portfolio (€50M+) or been involved in launching/scaling a fund and managing relationships.
• You bring the credibility to operate as a peer to founders, industrial corporates and institutional investors, and to represent the firm publicly.
• You are a strong team player, sharing ownership of decisions and outcomes.
• You bring a direct and honest communication style, grounded in trust, curiosity and optimism.

• Direct access to Europe’s industrial giants like ASML, Philips, TNO and the broader Brainport ecosystem as co‑investors, customers and partners.
• Deep connections across the European deep tech ecosystem and relevant networks that open doors and accelerate deal flow.
• A platform already built: deploying our first €118M fund, infrastructure and team in place with a proven track record. You’re stepping in to scale, not starting from scratch.
• Ownership in DeepTechXL plus the ability to co‑invest in our fast growing existing and new portfolio ventures, aligning your upside with fund performance.
• A rewarding package that grows as the firm grows. Base salary, profit share and carry aligned with fund performance, with increasing upside.
