About Cordaid

Cordaid is a Dutch development, humanitarian and peacebuilding organisation. Cordaid provides health care services, emergency relief, food security, education, and access to justice in the world’s most fragile and conflict-affected contexts, in which Cordaid strives to end poverty and exclusion. Climate change has been a cross-cutting topic for Cordaid’s work for many years.

Climate Justice

Climate change is not just an environmental issue but a central development challenge with disproportionate impacts on vulnerable groups, especially women, children, displaced people, and those in poverty. Climate change is an enormous threat multiplier that affects daily resilience, security and well-being and exacerbates conflicts and humanitarian crises that can deepen instability. In the fragile contexts where Cordaid is working, the effects of rising temperatures and extreme weather are already undermining progress and are heavily felt by the people who have least contributed to global warming. This is climate injustice, which cannot be ignored in our projects. Partners and Cordaid staff know that climate change plays an important role in almost every project, whether it is Health, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems, Security and Justice or Humanitarian Assistance, but we want to learn how to integrate approaches to make our projects more climate sensitive. For this reason, Cordaid experts from across the organisation are forming a Community of Practice.

Main activities and responsibilities of the internship:
  • Support the activities of the Cordaid Climate Justice Community of Practice.
  • Support a mapping of how climate affects the projects that Cordaid implements with partners.
  • The mapping will involve literature research, and data collection (interviews, focus group discussions, survey, etc.)
  • Contribute to the writing process and providing findings from Cordaid’s practice for the Positioning Papers for COP31 in Antalya, Turkey and COP32 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
  • Assist in organising learning sessions.
  • Draft and formulate lessons and recommendations for improved climate-related programming by Cordaid.
