War Child is looking for a: Intern Finance & Control

4-5 days per week for a period of 6, starting in April 2026

You are interested in working in an international organization and eager to develop yourself in finance and control within the NGO sector. You are analytical, structured, and have a strong eye for detail. You enjoy working with data, processes, and improving systems, and you communicate clearly with different stakeholders.

As an intern in this role, you will support the Finance, IT & Risk Management department, contributing to strengthening financial processes, controls, and reporting across the organization.

Your Challenge

You will support the Finance team in enhancing financial control, improving policies and procedures, and ensuring high-quality financial and donor reporting. Your work will contribute to both operational excellence and strategic financial management.

This internship provides exposure to multiple aspects of finance within an international NGO, including internal control, grant accounting, and management reporting. You will work closely with colleagues across departments and country programmes.

What you will do

• Finance Policies & Internal Control
  • Support in drafting, reviewing, and updating finance policies and procedures
  • Assist in strengthening internal control frameworks and risk mitigation measures
  • Contribute to documenting and improving financial processes
• Financial Control Activities
  • Support periodic financial control checks and reconciliations
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with internal policies and donor requirements
  • Contribute to audit preparation and follow‑up actions
• Grant Accounting & Donor Reporting
  • Assist in maintaining accurate grant administration and financial tracking
  • Support preparation of donor financial reports in line with requirements
  • Help ensure compliance with donor regulations and guidelines
• Management Reporting
  • Support preparation of internal financial reports and dashboards
  • Assist in variance analysis and budget monitoring
  • Contribute to improving reporting processes and tools
• General Finance Support
  • Provide administrative and analytical support to the Finance team
  • Collaborate with country teams and other departments on finance‑related topics
  • Support ad‑hoc financial analysis and projects

Your profile

• Student of HBO or Bachelor program, with specialization IBMS, Business Administration, Marketing, Economics or similar.
• You are enrolled in a Dutch higher education institute for the whole duration of the internship
• Ability to produce quality work outputs within agreed priorities and to deadlines
• Preferably, you have knowledge of NGO and/or development sector
• Ability to maintain contacts at different levels
• Excellent planning & organizational skills
• Problem solving skills, can‑do mentality
• Pro‑active, independent and flexible
• Interested to work and communicate with people from various backgrounds
• Strong teamwork and communication skills including presentation preparation and delivery
• Excellent command of English language, both spoken and written
• Available for 4‑5 days a week
• Available to start in April 2026 for a minimum period of 6 months

What We Offer

As per War Child Intern Policy, your fee will be €300 gross per month (based on 5 days). Travel costs will be reimbursed.

Important: War Child interns need to be registered students at a Dutch educational institution. This is a hard requirement. Students must be enrolled for the duration of their internship. Please note that this internship does not suit students who are in their thesis writing semesters.
