X4 Life Sciences in the Netherlands seeks an experienced Design Lead with a strong structural engineering background to drive design excellence across large-scale industrial, commercial and complex building projects.

You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage BIM models, and ensure high technical quality while guiding digital engineering adoption and best practices. Hybrid working options available.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Construction Engineering.
• 5+ years of relevant structural engineering experience.
• Experience with multiple structural materials (concrete, steel).
• ≥5 years leading design processes on large-scale construction/industrial projects.
• Experience with design management and multidisciplinary project coordination.
• Strong understanding of BIM and digital engineering processes.
• Experience in complex industrial, commercial, or large-scale building environments.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Fluent in Dutch and good English.
• Collaborative mindset for cross-discipline work.

Job description

We are currently looking for an experienced Design Lead with a strong structural engineering background to join a leading engineering and consultancy organisation in the Netherlands.

In this role, you will lead complex mono- and multidisciplinary design projects within the industrial and built environment. You will be responsible for coordinating design processes, managing multidisciplinary teams and ensuring high technical quality throughout the project lifecycle.

The role combines structural engineering expertise with design management, BIM coordination and digital engineering.

What will you be doing?

• Lead design and engineering processes from project initiation through to delivery
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across structural, civil and architectural disciplines
• Manage and coordinate BIM models, information exchange and digital collaboration
• Act as a key technical point of contact for clients, project teams and other stakeholders
• Establish and maintain design standards and ensure technical quality

The projects

You will work on a variety of large-scale industrial, commercial and complex building projects. These can include new-build developments, major refurbishments, industrial facilities and technically complex environments.

Sustainability, digital engineering, BIM, innovative materials and design automation are increasingly important within the project portfolio.

What are we looking for?

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Construction Engineering
• Alternatively, an HBO-level qualification in Construction/Structural Engineering combined with relevant additional structural qualifications
• At least 5 years of relevant structural engineering experience
• Experience working with multiple structural materials, particularly concrete and steel
• At least 5 years of experience leading design processes on large-scale construction or industrial projects
• Experience with design management and multidisciplinary project coordination
• Strong understanding of BIM and digital engineering processes
• Experience working within complex industrial, commercial or large-scale building environments
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Professional fluency in Dutch and good English
• A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with different disciplines and stakeholders
