Job summary

Johnson & Johnson in Leiden seeks a Staff EHS Engineer - Biosafety Officer to co-develop and implement biosafety policies, leading EHS initiatives across the organization. A deep understanding of biosafety protocols, regulatory compliance, and lab safety practices is required.

The role requires collaboration with researchers, laboratories, and operations to foster a culture of safety, manage biosafety and EHS programs, and ensure compliance with local and J&J guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 5 years in Biosafety, EHS, or bioscience lab/production with progressive responsibility.
• Certified Biosafety Officer (BGGO) and knowledge of biosafety/regulatory standards (ISO 14001 preferred).
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills in Dutch and English.

Responsibilities

• Co-develop, implement, and maintain the biosafety management program.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop biosafety protocols for handling biological materials.
• Implement training programs for staff on biosafety practices and procedures.
• Supervise compliance with local regulations and J&J guidelines.
• Collaborate with the EHS team to develop and implement safe working environments.
• Lead and support the implementation of EHS standards within areas of expertise.
• Participate in hazard assessments, audits, and inspections related to EHS (e.g., ISO 14001).
• Respond to incidents and provide corrective-action recommendations.
• Mentor and develop SME teams and Standards Owners.
