Janssen Biologics B.V. Legal Entity is seeking an experienced Occupational Safety and Process Safety professional to join our EHS team in Leiden.

You will co‑lead and strengthen safety management across laboratories, production areas, engineering environments, and capital projects to ensure safe operations and regulatory compliance. The role focuses on risk assessments, PSM activities, incident investigations, and training, with emphasis on ISO 45001 standards and safety-by-design in a biotech

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field; master’s preferred.
• Completed HVK qualification or equivalent senior occupational safety qualification.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in occupational safety and process safety management in biotech/pharmaceutical/chemical/manufacturing environments.
• Experience leading or facilitating HAZOPs, LOPA studies, risk assessments, hazard evaluations, and incident investigations.
• Strong knowledge of occupational safety legislation, ISO 45001, and related industry standards.
• Understanding of laboratory and production safety systems, energy isolation, and process safety barriers.
• Proven ability to influence and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Fluency in Dutch and English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain OHS and PSM programs across laboratory, production, and engineering areas.
• Co‑lead and coordinate process hazard analyses and MOC activities.
• Conduct workplace and process risk assessments and translate findings into controls.
• Strengthen safe-work systems: permit to work, confined space, hot work, lockout/tagout, contractor safety, energy control.
• Lead or support incident investigations and root-cause analyses.
• Drive compliance with ISO 45001 and PSM frameworks and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare for and support audits and regulatory inspections.
• Design and deliver training on occupational safety and process safety for operators, engineers and contractors.
• Act as safety advisor during design, commissioning, qualification, and change-control activities.
• Coach leaders to promote ownership and proactive risk management.
