Job summary

Altum Consulting in Amsterdam is seeking an Assistant Financial Controller to join a global media business for a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will support day-to-day financial control and reporting, reporting directly to the Finance Director.

The role covers monthly and annual reporting, month-end close, journals, reconciliations, management accounts, budgeting and variance analysis, with exposure to international stakeholders and experience with Exact accounting.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years' experience in financial accounting, assistant controller, management accounting or similar finance role.
• Good understanding of month-end, reconciliations, journals and financial reporting.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
• Excellent attention to detail and a structured approach to work.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting.
• Assist with the month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and post journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Support the preparation of management accounts and financial analysis.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger activities where required.
• Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Assist with statutory reporting, audit processes and other external reporting requirements.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with internal policies and controls.
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and reporting.
• Work collaboratively with finance colleagues and wider business stakeholders across an international organisation.
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support to the Finance Director and wider finance team.

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day financial control and reporting activities of the business. About You:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented finance professional with a strong grounding in financial accounting and a desire to develop within a global business. You will ideally have:

• 2-4 years' experience in a financial accounting, assistant controller, management accounting or similar finance role.
• A good understanding of month-end, reconciliations, journals and financial reporting.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
• Excellent attention to detail and a structured approach to work.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider finance team.
• Experience working in an international environment would be advantageous.
• Experience with an Exact accounting system would be beneficial
• A relevant finance qualification or progress towards ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent would be advantageous.
