Job summary

Flow Traders in Amsterdam is seeking an experienced Back-End Blockchain Engineer to join our Digital Assets Technology team. This hybrid role is based in Amsterdam and focuses on building scalable, low-latency back-end systems for DeFi markets.

You will work with trading desks, contribute to architecture of real-time systems, and develop both on-chain and off-chain components including smart contracts and market-making bots. Expertise in Python, Rust, Go, Java and Solidity is essential.

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc/PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of commercial software development experience.
• Proficiency in Python, Rust, Go, and/or Java.
• Strong DeFi development experience and blockchain knowledge (nodes, PoW/PoS, Web3).
• Experience with Solidity and/or Rust for smart contracts.
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices and event-driven processing.
• Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Docker/Kubernetes.
• Security best practices in blockchain and backend development.
• Familiarity with Kafka, Redis, gRPC, and WebSockets.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with trading desks to build scalable, low-latency back-end systems for DeFi markets.
• Contribute to architecture and development of real-time trading infrastructure.
• Develop on-chain and off-chain components, including smart contracts, indexers, and market-making bots.
• Implement APIs and integrate with DeFi protocols, liquidity pools and DEXs.
• Design event-driven microservices for real-time blockchain transaction processing.
• Ensure high availability, reliability and security of back-end systems.
