Job summary

Flow Traders NV in Amsterdam is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead architectural and technical direction for our Trading Automation and Backend Engineering teams. You will own long-term architecture, translate complex business problems into executable roadmaps, and architect scalable, high-throughput backend systems.

You will mentor senior engineers, drive technical alignment across multiple teams, partner with trading, quant, risk, and operations, and push automation across post-trade workflows

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience as Staff/Principal or cross-team Lead.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive consensus.
• Experience building distributed, high-performance backend systems.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, C++, or Java.
• Experience with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, Flink) and data pipelines.
• Understanding of modern infrastructure, observability, and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the long-term technical architecture for trading automation, risk, and post-trade platforms.
• Translate complex business problems into executable technical roadmaps.
• Architect scalable, high-throughput, reliable backend systems.
• Mentor senior engineers, guide tech leads, drive cross-team alignment.
• Decommission legacy systems in favor of modern, scalable services.
• Partner with trading, quant, risk, and operations to align tech with business value.
• Drive automation in post-trade workflows to reduce operational risk.
