Job summary

Van Oord is seeking a 2nd Engineer for our jack-up vessels to maintain and operate complex engine rooms and marine systems. You will stand watch, plan maintenance, and execute projects while leading jacking operations and collaborating with the Chief Engineer and crew.

You bring a valid COP for 2nd Engineer with STCW; 5+ years independent engineering experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and excellent communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Valid COP for 2nd Engineer including STCW certificates.
• Experience operating jacking systems on Jack-up vessels is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years' independent engineering experience with a passion for technology.

Responsibilities

• Stand watch independently and take over tasks from Chief Engineer when needed.
• Prepare, plan, and execute maintenance projects on board.
• Oversee and manage the jacking operation.
• Lead system maintenance, troubleshooting and performance enhancements.

Job description

THE POSITION

As a 2nd Engineer Jack Ups, you will be a key player in the maintenance and operation of our cutting-edge jack-up vessels. These vessels are integral to our offshore wind farm installations, dredging, and other marine projects. You will ensure the technical equipment and systems on board are in optimal working condition, allowing the team to carry out their tasks efficiently and safely.

YOUR IMPACT

As a 2nd Engineer, you independently stand watch and take over tasks from the Chief Engineer when needed. You are responsible for preparing, planning, and executing specific maintenance projects. And above all responsible for the jacking operation. This includes

• Operate and maintain the engine room and ships technical installation in a safe, maritime correct and environmentally responsible manner. In accordance with the Van Oord management system (maintenance of equipment) and in consultation with the Chief Engineer.
• Lead the charge in maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing systems. Especially the jacking operation. From pumps to nozzles, you will ensure everything is running at peak performance.
• Champion the safety of your team and the environment by adhering to strict safety protocols and regulatory standards, ensuring that operations are always carried out safely and responsibly.
• Work hand-in-hand with the Chief Engineer, First Engineer, and your crew to make sure every aspect of the operation runs like a well-oiled machine.
• Keep track of all operational data, provide insightful reports on equipment performance, and assist in identifying and solving any issues that arise.

About You

You have a background in the maritime sector and are independent, stress-resistant, and flexible. Additionally, you have a good command of the English language and possess the necessary documents to work within the EU. Furthermore

• In possession of a valid Certificate of Competency for 2nd Engineer, including all required STCW certificates.
• Experience with operating the jacking system on Jack-up vessels is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience functioning independently as an engineer, with a passion for technology, automation and innovation.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to think on your feet.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to lead and support your colleagues.
• A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
